Wonder Boy in Monster Land Game Sample - Sega Master System
Wonder Boy in Monster Land is an action/ARPG game developed by Westone and is the sequel to the original Wonder Boy. It is titled "Super Wonder Boy: Monster World" in Japan and "Super Wonder Boy in Monster Land" or "Super Wonderboy" in Europe. It was also released in Brazil as "Mônica no Castelo do Dragão" and was retooled to resemble the popular Brazilian comic series, "Monica's Gang" or "Turma da Mônica". It was originally released in Arcades and then ported to various platforms. Alonside the Arcade release, the most reknowned version of the game is probably the Sega Master system port.
The game, which takes place over a decade after the original Wonder Boy, deals with an older Tom-Tom who originally rid Wonder Land of evil eleven years prior and recieved the title of Wonder Boy. He is summoned to rid the land of fresh new evil, brought to you courtesy of a powerful creep known as the MEKA dragon (well, we now know mainly where the MEKA emulator gets its name from), a fire-breathing dragon who, along with his cohorts, conquered Wonder Land, turing it into "Monster Land". As he is the only one who has proven himself courageous enough or skilled enough to stop evil before, he gets ready like never before to stop the MEKA dragon.
The game is basically considered your run-of-the-mill platformer combined with Zelda, though the game is more action than RPG or adventure, and is broken up into stages. There are various weapons, armors, magics, tips, and such you can buy and different characters you'll meet along the way, though you have a bit of a time limit and can only enter a room a few times before it "breaks down", preventing you from using it again (this mainly applies to shops or places you no longer need to visit). As you advance, you'll gain more health, move faster, and grow more powerful, and it's a pretty good departure from the original Wonder Boy.
This is a sample recorded off of Sega hardware (Power Base Converter on a CDX system). Enjoy.
