Part 2. Imagine if you will taking Donkey King 64 and mixing in top down Zelda and you kind of get this. There are 4 characters you can play as and each has unique abilities to traverse the world. Most of the dungeons require all the characters, but only one participates in the boss fights. The DK64 comparison is due to the fact that you need to find a totem to switch characters. These totems also work as fast travel points. The downside is that each character needs to find a totem on their own to be able to utilize them. It's a bit tedious. What it does mean is that the world is designed in a way that every character has their own unique way to reach everywhere. Which does mean a lot of thought went into the world design and it certainly shows. The drawback to DK64 is that you constantly need to back track and retrace your steps with each character and that is also present here and it does seem unnecessary. A hot swap feature would have been great, but huge changes would have been needed for the world design. Each character has their own mobility tools and upgrades and attacks, so they do all play different. I gotta say combat is probably the weakest point. It's very clunk with every character and probably could have used a bit more refining. It's not awful and works, it just could be better. Exploring was really awesome and the world was fun to navigate. There is an upper world and lower world and since every character has different abilities they move around in their own unique ways. The kid can walk on water, the magician can dash, the thief can grapple and tame monsters and the fighter can climb. It is fun figuring out how characters are going to get from one place to the next, but is a bit repetitive. I went around and tried to find every single collectable and health upgrade. Pretty sure I did, but somehow I managed to get more health on the fighter than I think you were supposed to. Health pieces seem to be character specific, but I think there was some oversight on a few and I put some on characters that probably weren't supposed to be able to get them. So my health looked imbalanced. Meh. There are some side quests and extra collectables that improve each characters abilities. Super nice. Overall it's a pretty solid and fun game with a few imperfections. I'd love to see a sequel where the iron out some of the wrinkles. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
