This is a demonstration of a trick that takes advantage of a bug in the game that results in both players controlling Apocalypse in the Saturn version of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Read on below for instructions and more information...

This video shows the trick being performed and also some of the outcomes and situations that can happen. Timestamps of the events starting are as follows:

00:06 - Outcome 1. Performing the trick, P1 defeats P2 in the Apocalypse mirror match, game "resumes" to Cyclops vs. Ryu on final stage. The VS screen is missing the Cyclops and Ryu portraits.

02:11 - Outcome 2. Performing the trick with Ryu, P2 defeats P1 in the Apocalypse mirror match, P2 defeats CPU Apocalypse, receive Ryu's ending.

05:28 - P2 defeats P1 in the Apocalypse mirror match, P2 loses against CPU Apocalypse, P2 chooses to Continue.

06:50 - P2 defeats P1 in the Apocalypse mirror match, afterwards in the match against CPU Apocalypse, P1 Joins. The VS screen is glitched here.

===== HOW TO DO THE TRICK =====

You do NOT need a third party device/method to do this, and it also works on the Arcade version of the game! Here is how to do it:

For this trick I recommend using a character with a beam/laser super, for example Ryu or Cyclops. For this example we'll use Cyclops, like I've done at the beginning of the video:

1) First, make sure you have enough credit so that Player 2 could join the game at any time.

2) Play through single-player mode and get to the boss, Apocalypse.

3) Fight Apocalypse and get his life all the way down to the absolute minimum, so that one more hit will defeat him.

4) Now using Cyclops, stand about a few steps distance away from Apocalypse's fist, and perform his Mega Optic Blast hyper combo.

5) As soon as the first hit of the Mega Optic Blast connects to Apocalypse's fist or head, press Player 2's START button. You must get this Start button press EXACTLY dead on the EXACT moment Apocalypse receives the first hit, which will of course, defeat him.

6) If it's worked, the message 'Here Comes A New Challenger' will appear on the black screen, BEFORE the winning screen comes up. Watch the video to see if you've done it right.

7) The game will now take you to an Apocalypse vs. Apocalypse battle, where both Player 1 and Player 2 control each Apocalypse.

===== ADVICE =====

Timing is crucial for this trick and it is very hard to pull off, but I can assure you that it works. It can be done using any character and attack, but I find that using characters with beam supers makes the trick the "least hard" to do... and this is mainly because of the brief pause before the Super is executed (you know when the brief portrait of your character is shown in the banner before the move is performed), which allows you to time the moment you press the Player 2's Start button.

===== GAMEPLAY =====

He is a very slow, clunky and static character. Due to the nature of this character, all of his moves will leave him in a vulnerable position, which is understandable because he is a giant boss who cannot block... you could say that he has been made to be beat up on. The satellite lasers (which are automatically-controlled) are probably his best move. His Drill is excellent for finishing off opponents quickly - providing that you catch them with it that is.

===== OTHER INFORMATION / TRIVIA =====

---- He has an unused "Forcefield" move which appears to be unfinished. He transforms his background arm and produces a small forcefield that lasts briefly. It does not affect the opponent in any way, even if there is contact with it. There may be a collision property which affects other projectiles.

--- If you manage to complete the game with Apocalypse, you'll get Ryu's ending.

---- Despite being a non-selectable character in this version of the game, on the character select screen when you confirm him, the announcer actually says his name.

---- If a human player selects Apocalypse to use (via third party methods or the bug trick) in this version of the game, the round will start early meaning that his opponent will be able to move and fight even when Apocalypse hasn't finished his intro (where he rises from below). Therefore if Apocalypse gets stunned by the opponent when he is rising, the game can crash!

---- If he is on a stage/background other than his own one, he does not have his body sprite.

---- On some stages/backgrounds other than his own one, he does not have the full range of the field to move into. It's like he is confined to his own space.

---- In the Apocalypse mirror match on the final stage (Stage 07), only one Apocalypse will have the body sprite.

---- In the Saturn version of the game, due to the wider screen output for Capcom 2D fighting game conversions, it means that in gameplay, the lifebar icons/panels of the characters had to be placed underneath the lifebar... otherwise you wouldn't be able to see it.
