To unlock the framerate follow my video: https://youtu.be/W26KD-mntEY except for the Ghidra part. You can go directly from HxD after decompressed and decrypted the default.xex of Ace Combat 6 with Xextool. The locations to modify in HxD are (ctrl+G to go there in HxD):
1F325C (1F2F2C for the NTSC version) change 81 5f 35 0c to 39 40 00 01
1F32E5 ( 1F2FB4 for the NTSC version) change 40 9A to 40 xx (where xx are hex value you can test. 10 is good, the one I've used for this video, but you can try other hexadecimal values e.g. 12,16,17,1B,21,23,2A,2E,FF or any from 01 to FF. If you use Peek Poker for this purpose, and I suggest to do it to speed up the process, do a peek from 82000400, as address 0x, to FFFFFF as Lenght 0x. Remember, in Peek Poker the locations are 3400 less than HxD, so 1F32E5 in HxD is 1EFEE5. You can use a simple Excel formula like decimal.hex(hex.decimal(location HxD)-hex.decimal(3400) to have the conversion. Do something similar for Ghidra to/from HxD)
This is a comparison between three version of Ace Combat 6 Fires of Liberation (a great game, also in 2022):
1. Framerate unlocked and Vertical Sync off
2. Original framerate
3. Framerate unlocked and Vertical Sync off
As you can see, the first is smoother but shows several tearing effects. The third drops sometimes or often the framerate to the original value. See description to know how to get the unlocked framerate.
Depending on which mission you play, the first choise or the third is better.
For example, the first mission "Ivasion of Gracemeria" is really heavy for the gpu, so you have several tearing effect (1.) or framerate drops (3.).
The third mission "Sipli Field", is smooth also using version 3.
The fourth mission "Bartolomeo Fortress" is very impressive using both 1. or 3 (even if I prefer 1.).
So, you have to test them.
