REVIEW:
-In gaming as in life, I can't profess to being the world's greatest fan of either Warner Bros nor Disney's classic rolecall of characters, but theres no denying there execution, both on screen & in game, has generally been to a very high standard.
Sunsoft already set a high bar through their impressive library for the NES, so it was refreshing to see their logo appear apon startup. The strength of their 8-bit offerings usually centred around engaging & original concepts & well designed mechanics & gameplay that occasionally suffered from being a little too demanding on players patience (Blaster Master anyone?!)
Bugs Bunny suffers some of these traits, (tho more palatable) through its endless array of cartoon gadgets that build your inventory. They often prove complicated to determine which does what & against who, to be worth the hassle, instead relying on the less satisfying Pie Throw & High Kick.
Still the addition of such a large selection of goodies does alot to keep gameplay from growing stale.
By far the games biggest showpiece is its looks. Sunsoft effortlessly capture not just the heart & soul, but the head to toe of Warner's classic look also, in whats an incredibly good looking game. I challenge anyone to find fault there! It's does alot to simmer some of the less desirable aspects of gameplay but not enough for me to truly hold back my disdain.
Great animation often Sacrifices tight gameplay & here is no different. It's by no means the worst, but its noticable. Equally, old friends Edge Detection & Poor Hitbox play their part but nothing is more annoying than the games ability to frustrate! Many areas feel considerably more difficult than much of the gameplay would first imply. Certain boss & sub bosses demand painful trial & error.
Thankfully your life & continue count is generous as is the ability to drop your own respawn points wherever you desire (if you can find one!)
Overall this is an occasion where the sheer delights in creative design & impressive looks does outweighs alot of other frustrations. Is it perfect? Lord no, but it's worth a play for the spectacle alone.
Now, thaaaaaat's all folks
