1944 Sub vs 1974 Sub | Cold Waters w/ DotMod Challenge
10Can a "modernized" 1944 diesel-electric submarine take on a 1974 nuclear submarine, both with 1990s modernization? Today, we have an interesting deathmatch!
This is an alternate 1998 that predates the South China Sea campaign in Cold Waters.
In one corner, we have the Guppy II / Tench, which is a 1944 (yes, World War II) Tench class submarine, that received Guppy II upgrade after the war, then transferred to Taiwan in the 1970s, and renamed Sea Lion (海獅 Hai Shih) They have since received updated fire control that would allow them to fire modern Mk 48 torpedoes, which they do have 4 onboard. In fact, they are on a mission to test the Mk 48. However, they are about to have an uninvited guest in the test range...
In the other corner, we have the sub known as Han-class to the West. However, it is actually Type 091 class. They were first deployed in 1974 and was the first indigenously developed nuclear submarine in Asia (not counting the Soviet ones), and while noisy compared to Western ones, they should make short work of an WW2 sub, even with some modernization. They were under orders to make sure the Taiwanese relic never return to port...
The rules are simple: can the Guppy, under human control, kill the Han in Cold Waters (by Killerfish Games) with DotMod? Or will it be killed in turn?
NOTE: The Guppy II in CW / DotMod normally does NOT come with Mk 48 ADCAP Mod 6 AT's, just standard A184s. This version was modded. However, other aspects of the Guppy were untouched.
