688(I) sub versus 5 Akula subs | Cold Waters w/ DotMod Challenge
24Can a 688(i) (Flight III) take on five Akula-class subs? Today, we have an interesting deathmatch!
In one corner, we have the 688(I), also called Los Angeles-class Flight III. It is a class of SSN (nuclear attack submarines) and a workhorse sub of the US Navy. They were built from 1985 through 1989, and featured improved systems over its previous generations. They are armed with Mk 48 Mod 6 torpedoes for this scenario.
In the other corner, we have the sub known as Akula-class to the West. However, it is actually named Project 971 "Shchuka-B" class. They were first deployed in 1986 and was nearly a match to American subs in its quietness, with subsequent models even quieter. They were also armed with 8 torpedo tubes, 4 of them the larger 650mm type. They are equipped with the standard Russian loadout as per AI, which includes Vodopod sub-launched missile torpedoes. And yes, there are five of the Akulas.
The rules are simple: can the 688(I), under human control, kill all 5 Akulas under AI control, without taking a hit in return, in Cold Waters (by Killerfish Games) with DotMod installed?
