#253 Marvel vs. Capcom 2: Proof of hacking and playing as Abyss' first form.
An almost playthrough of the 1st form of the unplayable boss Abyss in Capcom's Marvel vs Capcom 2.
#Do your best to not input the command f, d, df + HP with Abyss, as this will crash the game#
First Form Abyss' moves:
qcf + P
qcf + K
qcb + P
qcb + K
Super:
qcf + LP + HP
qcf + LK + HK
The first form of Abyss is his most iconic, and my personal favourite. He has a simple but effective design; towering over the player and punishing them heavily if they fail to defend at the right time. In terms of moves he's the most varied of the three forms, and if he was balanced a little more he would have made for a decent hidden character. His horn toss is achieved with qcf + P, and it's quite a useless move, leaving him open and vulnerable to attack, though doing decent damage if it hits the enemy. His qcf + K move, where he charges at the enemy, is his most effective move, as it interrupts their attacks and deals quite a lot of damage to them. He also has an overhead punch to knock the enemy away, but this isn't particularly useful. Finally in terms of special moves, he has the ability to shoot homing projectiles at the opponent. These deal decent damage, and they come out quickly, meaning that they have some use in conjunction with his charging attack. His supers are especially worth mentioning. Like the other forms, Abyss can use his super moves as much as he likes, and he has two of them to boot. His qcf + LK + HK move is a laser which he takes some time to charge first, and again leaves him open to attack. If and when it hits however, he takes off 50% of the opponent's life. However, that pails in comparison to his qcf + LP + HP move. Temporarily pausing, Abyss summons a rain of projectiles from the sky. These deal devastatingly harsh damage to the opponent, and are nearly impossible to block once he has executed this move. It knocks off around 80% of the opponent's health or so, and leaves them almost dead. Though this form of Abyss is very slow, this one move alone entirely makes up for it, and unsurprisingly I make quite a bit of use of it in the playful. Overall, very fun boss to play as, and I still think its a shame this form of him wasn't playable in some way in the dreamcast version of MVC2. I can see why however. It seems to be impossible to beat the game with him, and he in turns causes the game to crash, which is a shame, as otherwise he more or less causes no problems.
[How to play as Abyss]
You need a cheating program to edit the character values in the game. I personally use artmoney.
To access Abyss, you must set the search options to look for 2-byte integers, then highlight one of the following characters and search for the number associated with them. This is their character value:
00 = Ryu
01 = Zangief
02 = Guile
03 = Morrigan
04 = Anakaris
05 = Strider Hiryu
Use this to find the address which controls the character value. Once you have, type one of the following numbers into the value section and freeze the value using the program:
24 = First Form Abyss
25 = Second Form Abyss
26 = Third Form Abyss
I will be making a tutorial on how to do this in the future, so stay tuned.
