3D Printed Video Game Controller Storage For PS5, Switch, & Xbox!
85When it comes to keeping things organized in my gaming setup, 3D printing has been absolutely invaluable. I've made cartridge storage stands, mounts for systems, LED lights, and a whole lot more. One thing I have struggled with is storing controllers in my living room. See, we have a basket that we tend to just toss controllers in, however, I don't love it. I decided to try to see if I could print something, and I started looking on Bambu Lab's Makerworld Website. There I found something, but it needed help. Let's take a look at how I 3D Printed a Video Game Controller Storage Stand For PS5, Switch, & Xbox!
The original design was from Dadtaxes3D, and he designed it in about 5 minutes per the original post! As such, this really had a lot going for it. It holds 4 controllers plus 2 Joy-Cons per the description, but there was a bit of an issue with my print, and others shared similar experiences. See, the base is supposed to thread into the center portion of the mount. When I tried screwing the 2 pieces together, the threads did not work well with each other. I tried to force things together and managed to cross-thread the threads. What was I to do?
I uploaded the original files to Tinkercad so I could start reworking it. I removed the threaded portion on the base and the center support, and instead, I created a print-in-place single-piece version. I also removed the slots for the Joy-Cons as I did not need them personally, and removing that portion also reduced the amount of filament and print time.
I opted to print this test in Yellow, and with a 15% lightning infill, it took about 3 1/2 hours to print. When I examined the print it looked great! I accomplished what I wanted, I now had a 4-controller stand that fits under my TV in my living room in our storage shelving unit!
