NO WAY! Hyperkin Launching Sega Nomad Clone System at CES 2024?!?!?
1662024 just kicked off and Hyperkin is already sending waves through the retro gaming world. One of the most popular handhelds of all time has to be the Sega Nomad. Designed to play both Sega Genesis and Mega Drive games, this handheld really upped the game, no pun intended. At the 2024 CES consumer electronics Show in Las Vegas, Hyperkin just unveiled the new Mega 95, a Sega Nomad clone that looks to bring back the glory days of the Nomad. That's right, Hyperkin is Launching a Sega Nomad Clone System!
Aesthetically speaking, Hyperkin has definitely changed things up from the traditional rectangular-shaped nomad. The left and right-hand sides of the system more closely mimic a six-button Genesis controller than what the Nomad did. I for one am thrilled to see this as I never thought the Nomad was terribly comfortable to hold.
When it comes to the screen, the Mega 95 features a 5-inch screen with a 4:3/16:9 aspect ratio button. One of the most interesting features about the Nomad was the fact that you could connect it to your television via AV cables and use the system as a player one controller, while a second controller could plug into the system for player two. Hyperkin has retained this functionality through a USB-C charging dock which also features two controller ports right on the front. This is a vast improvement over the original as you can use two traditional controllers versus having to use the system as one of the controllers. Hyperkin has opted to stick with 720p for resolution. Part of me would like to see them go to 1080p, but at this screen size, it's not entirely necessary.
Pricing and availability have not been revealed as of yet, but if I had to wager a guess I'm betting it'll be around the $150 mark and available in Q3 of 2024. I don't know anything for sure, this is simply my speculation.
