I FINALLY Designed & 3D Printed The Coolest Video Game Sign!
How do you artistically show your passion for video games? I know some people draw, some people write fanfiction, our good friends John Riggs and John Hancock make their own games, my oldest daughter Cassie crochets different characters from Games including axolotls. Me? I 3D print. Legit one of the main reasons why I got into 3D printing was so that I could create stuff to hold, display, and show off my passion for video gaming. I also wanted to make a couple bucks on the side truth be told. One of the things that I have probably made more than anything else has been LED light boxes with different gaming names and franchises on them. But I've just learned a technique to take my designs to the next level, and I have now learned how to 3D print the coolest LED signs that I've ever made. Let's take a look.
It seems like the launch of the bamboo Labs X1C and P1P/P1S has really expanded what people are creating in terms of LED lights. I've seen amazing signs with characters from the paw patrol, Star Wars, and even Super Mario. For the longest time I wanted to create a world of Nintendo sign, the legit deals are stupid expensive, and I thought that this would be an ideal piece for in a man cave. The technique I was using with the lettering printing on top of the lens was not giving me the results that I was desiring. As such, I could never get this logo to quite work.
I design most of my stuff in a program called Tinkercad, it's freeware, runs in your browser, and it's pretty simple and it works. Like any free software, however, it has its limitations. I could not get the print the way that I wanted to designing in Tinkercad. Tinkercad's Big brother is called fusion 360, a true CAD software. I've been trying to get fusion 360 to work for about 5 months now, and the way it works is just so different than anything I've ever used that I couldn't wrap my head around it. Until one night I stayed up until 2:30 in the morning and forced myself to learn it.
The results are good, not great and it needs a little bit of tweaking yet. But the overall design is here. The creative process is here. Now I need to refine my print settings to clean things up a little bit. I also think I need to replace my extruder on my P1S as I've had some retraction issues as of late. I think once I install my stainless steel extruder gears we will be off to the races.
What do you think of this? Is this something you would buy? Is there a specific franchise or logo you would like to see me do? Let me know down in the comments.
