3D Ray Casting Engine: #5 (Global Game Jam 2022) - Fish-Eye View
2022-01-30. This is my 5th video of my simple ray casting engine for the Global Gam Jam 2022. Showcases:
- fish eye view
- this happens when you don't get your ray cast scan vector length correct
- for the example 480 pixel wide screen, you'll shoot 480 ray scans
- the middle scan is straight forward, and has a length of 1
- for 90° FOV, the left-most and right-most sans are 45° degrees off-center
- 45° is exactly 1 unit ahead and 1 unit to the side
- the length of such a vector = sqrt(2) via Pythagorean theorem
- this demo showcases what happens if it's 1
