#5 DONKEY KONG COUNTRY - PLAYTHROUGH (Final 2 Worlds) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is the playthrough of Donkey Kong Country done live on IGTV. Due to space restrictions I was only able to record the final 2 worlds.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
REVIEW:
-Surely a game that needs no introduction. A landmark moment in gaming history and the game that truly cemented RARE into gaming legend. The techniques used through parallax scrolling and 3D modelling had been utilised before but never presented in such a staggeringly beautiful way. Let's not overlook the outstanding soundtrack either, a perfect example of harmonizing the richness & orchestrial advantages of the snes soundchip. Its fair to say the results were so impressive they outshone the majority of the 16-bit library and fair number from the 32-bit too.
Though a triumph for RARE, a developer who put me through such suffering over the last year with their NES assault-course, it has to be said the legendary difficulty of the team feels considerbaly simmered down here. I'll admit my initial childhood playthroughs demanded many weeks of committed gameplay but despite many years of practice rendering it a considerably tamer experience for me now, it was never exactly the likes of Battletoads or Cobra Triangle!
It's no understatement to call DK country the complete package! Visual aesthetics aside, the gameplay is terrific with the over-engineered sprites never compromising the slick controls. While Diddy proves the more enjoyable ape to play as (at least for me), DK offers just enough variety to keep him a serviceable substitute for the occasional obstacle. Being the bigger ape, it would be nice if he had a health advantage but I guess it would make things a little too easy.
Speaking of ease, as mentioned before this is far from my first playthrough and I certainly recall far more troublesome experiences in the past, yet here I cruised through the entire game in under 2hrs stockpiling a laughable 76 lives by the time King K.Roll fell. Despite my previous encounters with this game I think theres no question my gaming skills have improved considerably over the last year. If these 4 games are anything to go by, the snes is going to be a piece of cake in comparison to its older brother 🤭.
Perhaps I'll be eating those words instead though?
