#17 SUPER MARIO RPG - PLAYTHROUGH (Final Dungeon) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is my playthrough of Super Mario RPG done live on IGTV. This is only the final Dungeon due to space I wasnt able to record the whole playthrough.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
REVIEW:
-As the cartridge suggests, here's one we missed out on here, which considering Mario's popularity is surprising. The J-RPG format was a hard sell, tho due to translation concerns, the PAL market was rarely tested until FF7, which became a huge hit!
Had I bought this at 10, Its no exaggeration to suggest I'd have struggled. Games were supposed to be my escape from school, the inclusion of so many words and numbers would've had me rolling my eyes 🤭. I'm pleased to report maturity has brought with it a far more patient approach to gaming and finally I can enjoy these, previously sniffed at J-RPGs.
Its also possible, the mixture of ingredients could have succeeded in winning me over to the genre, afterall this is a much easier J-RPG than alot of Squares output, which given the franchise certainly seems the right approach. There's still areas of concern for novices, I distinctly remember suffering far more during my first playthrough some 10 years back but with a far greater wealth of experience to rely on, 2nd time round it, was a breeze.
What makes this adventure so engaging is the ease at which Square manages to balance classic elements of the genre with wonderful storytelling. Characters and environments from the Mushroom Kingdom are brought to life beautifully adding welcome depth to the franchise. The inclusion of Bowser and his dilemma of working with Mario really adds an amusing extra layer to the narrative, however despite the perfect setup, once again Luigi is completely forgotten!
The decision to include a flavour of live action to the battles via timing attacks was a good one, further acting as an introductionary crossover between the genres, tho again when you learn its possible to perform Mario's Super Jump 100 times & my best only standing at 15, you appreciate theres far more skill than 1st meets the eye!
If you engage in all encounters you'll be more than ready for all boss encounters (excluding Square's trademark hidden 'Super' Bosses). It's a long game regardless tho with plenty of additional extra fun a very rewarding one.
With an even more impressive Disney series to come, it's clear these franchises are in safe hands!
