Электроника МК52 Calculator: Part 1 (intro & repair start)
A small exploration of the Soviet/Ukrainian Elektronika MK-52 programmable calculator.
Bought this a few years ago when I was interested in calculators - there seems to be plenty of NOS available on ebay for this particular model, and there's also a few interesting videos already made by other people.
There appears to be many different colours available!
I was scratching around trying to get my IBM 5155 out when I stumbled upon the box with this (and a few other interesting bits for another time).
I also got the MEU-4 (БРП-4 ... "BRP-4") Memory Expansion Unit (Блок Pасширения Памяти) which contains games, plus an additional KR1601RR1 (КР1601РР1) EEPROM which it uses to store programs. It also came with a USB power adaptor (otherwise it runs on 4xAA cells).
Unfortunately it's not in a fully working state - the 14-way flat film connector between the main board and the keypad has some corrosion which appears to be affecting it. So will repair this somehow.
It's an interesting design - has a small detachable board that I assume is the DC-DC converter board for the vacuum florescent display (VFD), plus uses an EEPROM to store data.
It came with two hefty manuals, plus a third for the MEU-4/БРП-4.
