(60fps) KOF 97 NEOGEO MVS/AES option & Unibios 3.3 cheat menus ~ The KO 146
I wanted to double-check that there was no way, even with the Universe Bios (aka "Unibios") 3.3 chip in my "Omega" consolized NEOGEO MVS giving me access to both NEOGEO AES and MVS option menus, as well as the custom Unibios "Cheats," to turn off full-screen red "Flash" effects and super meters in The King of Fighters '97 (those flashy effects are not compatible with my eyeballs these days, dang) for NEOGEO MVS.
So here I am checking that yet again, to make sure I hadn't somehow missed a magical way to do that.
My KOF 97 playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZO3OPzPjIzN-gtUA8rO4IcrtRuPxe5FG
0:00 - The Unibios 3.3 main menu--you get to this by holding A, B, and C on boot
0:20 - The Unibios in-game menu (over KOF 97) -- you bring this up by pressing the Start and Select buttons together (you can also customize the color of this menu, a nice feature : )
0:23 - The Unibios "Cheat Database" -- the other two in-game menu options require punching in memory codes to achieve certain effects, and as far as I can tell from googling none of those known codes do what I was after here, and it's kind of a pain anyway, but "The Cheat Database" is nice and simple and has some interesting options--no Flash/Super disabling cheats here, though : P
1:00 - Demonstrating one "Cheat" from the Cheat Database--"Unlock Boss Characters"--this saves you from punching in a rather difficult button code sequence on the character select screen, if I recall correctly. Anyway here you it making the five "Orochi" characters show up in character select (when I didn't have the cheat engaged earlier, at 0:30, they weren't there)
1:36 - Just a few quick Orochi Leona moves
2:00 - Using "SOFT REBOOT SYSTEM" from the Unibios In-game menu, then getting to the NEOGEO MVS menu by holding B, C, and D during the reboot
2:08 - NEOGEO MVS menu, "SETTING UP THE SOFT DIP"--this is where you can toggle dip-switch settings settings--the "CART" submenu is for the game-specific stuff, like difficulty level and display, team/single play toggle etc; no Flash or Super options for this KOF 97 cart, though
2:33 - Back to the Unibios main menu to switch to AES mode
2:45 - Booting KOF 97 in AES mode (remember, this is actually a MVS cart I'm using)
2:55 - KOF 97 AES Options menu -- nope, no Flash or Super options hidden in here : P
3:26 - Using the Unibios In-game menu CHEAT DATABASE again to turn "Unlock Boss Characters" on again (you have to re-enable Unibios In-game menu settings each time you boot)
3:38 - A tiny glimpse of Orochi Iori in Survivor mode (I had to jump out of these gameplay bits quickly to avoid triggering a counter-hit screen Flash effect)
So nope, still no way I can find to turn off Flash or Supers in KOF 97!
Recorded 8/17/19 w/ "Omega" consolized NEOGEO MVS, OSSC, Framemeister, Elgato HD60
