An Afghan military officer who opened fire at an airport building in the capital Kabul has killed eight American soldiers serving in Afghanistan. The officer, a veteran military pilot is reported to have fired on the Americans after an argument. Eight American soldiers lost their lives, and an American contractor was also killed. Five Afghan soldiers were injured and the Afghan gunman died in the exchange of fire. His brother claimed that the veteran pilot had no ties to insurgents, but that he had been battling financial problems. It's the latest in a string of deadly incidents to take place inside military or government installations, a favoured target of the Taliban.
