42 Commando now has a firm handle on security in the Shazhad area of Afghanistan's Helmand Province. Daily patrols are helping to provide reassurance for the local Afghan population and weekly shuras are providing an important listening post in the communities. It has been five weeks since they took over security in this part of Nad-e Ali North and the improving security situation is also testament to the work of 3 Para, who endured fierce fighting to help stabilise the area just a few months ago. Last week 42 Commando Royal Marines' Commanding Officer hosted his first shura since taking command of the region. Whatever new threats they face, 42 Commando are adamant they will succeed in their peace-keeping mission.
