A look at the Super Slapshot 3D Models and Arena
I remember vividly playing this game on the shockwave.com website which the Atom Films website redirected me for some games, except that I seem to have only played it once and haven't played it again since, until now. I first knew of Atom Films when I was browsing through the Aardman website back in 2004, around the exact time I played this game, as well as many others.
Unlike Flash games which are easy to get hold of assets contained within their .swf files, getting assets from Shockwave games such as this one was proven to be rather tricky and difficult, until just recently, when I was browsing through the Garry's Mod Steam Workshop for some cars running on the Glide codebase, and I happen to come across a set of cars from one of those Shockwave games using the Simfphys base. And I was thinking "Hold on... How is this possible?!! You can actually rip stuff from Shockwave GAMES?!!!! Something you simply weren't able to do?!!!"
That was when I, out of curiousity, did some research and eventually did come across this one particular tool which made ripping assets from Shockwave games finally possible for the first time: The Director Cast Ripper, made by n0samu!
With this, I was finally able to rip assets of certain Shockwave games that I was always curious about and finally looked at them myself. As for the models from them, they are stored in certain .w3d files which needed to be converted with a separate tool called the Shockwave 3D World Converter. And with it, I was able to not only acquire the textures, but also all the models that you now see here, albeit stored in a single OBJ file and appearing as several models in one. But fortunately, Blender does give you the option to split in groups, allowing you to view and see each and every single separate model contained within.
Upon looking at the models, I noticed that the player with the name Shockwave and wearing number 24, and the goalie with the name Gordon and jersey number 19 wear jerseys which strongly resemble the ones worn by the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL team around the time of when this game was made. The goalie jersey even includes the original team's logo on the shoulder yoke, albeit severely pixellated. Does this mean that the devs of this particular game were based in Tampa, FL?
Enjoy a full look of all the models and textures I ripped straight from the game, accompanied by music that I also was able to rip from the game as well.
