A Tough Top-down Action Metroidvania | Mark Of The Deep demo
5Hello everyone! This was the last demo I played during the Steam Next Festival. This is Mark of the Deep, a top-down metroidvania, pretty similar to games like Death's Door or Crypt Custodian, but with a main focus on tough combat. It has the soulslike tag, and it is described as a metroidvania with soulslike elements, but those elements are basically dodge and hard difficulty. You don't stagger enemies and you get surrounded by a nice number of them really early in the game (specially annoying ranged enemies). Combat is smooth, but you have to be precise with your every actions, because you can't interrupt your attack with an emergency dash, and if you dodge too early, they can just change the direction of their attack in the last second (at least, there is no stamina). This game could be really frustrating for some people, but once you get used to the combat, it can get really enjoyable. By the end, I was having fun, the main highlight being the bosses. Great boss fights (best part, with close checkpoints).
Graphics are nice, but the music is way too atmospheric for this game. I think some pirate tunes would fit perfectly here.
