------------------------------------------

Artillery games were originally very basic with nothing too special about them, but then this game came around and completely blew away all the other similar games!

...then Scorched Earth came along and everyone thought THAT game was the one that revolutionized the genre and Tank Wars was promptly forgotten about. Probably didn't help that there was already another game out there called Tank Wars that was a lot less advanced. :P

Additional Information and Corrections:

* A couple things I didn't mention: Firstly, if a round goes on too long, lightning strikes from the heavens at random. The longer the round goes past the first lightning strike, the more frequent and intense the lightning gets!

* Secondly, even though the game only supports PC Speaker sound, there were plans to add enhanced sound support, but they fell through for whatever reason.

* When you go searching for the shareware version of this game, keep in mind that there are two common versions to come across: v3.0 and v3.2. I was playing with v3.2. They're both virtually identical as far as I can tell.

* Also of note is that there's ANOTHER game called Tank Wars, previously released in 1986 for DOS. This one was made by Cody Snider and is a much more basic artillery game, running in a CGA 4-colour mode.
