MISSION 12 - CLIMATE STATUS

Bare with me, folks. We're almost done with field training, as this exercise feels pretty campaign-y. Nell says we're on our own, but we'll still have to sit through plenty of explanations. This exercise will introduce the concepts of CO Powers as well as how changing weather can affect the battle.

After your first turn CO Olaf will use his CO Power 'Blizzard' to make it snow on the battlefield. This doubles movement cost, so a regular plain field which used to have a movement cost of 1, will now cost two. In addition to this, the enemy has pretty much double of everything you have. This can be a rough battle to wrap your head around, but we'll work with it.

For the enemy's air units, there's four battle copters. You should be able to take out three of them fairly early, using either your missiles of anti-air unit. However the last one will stay tucked away in the top-right corner until something comes within its range.

For your air units, you only have one battle copter and one transport copter. You definitely don't want to lose either, but your battle copter is particularly important. It's the best option for taking out the enemy's rockets towards the end of the battle, since it can't be targeted by it on the approach.

As far as I know, there's no perfect way to do this map. You'll have to use some unit as bait at some point to draw the enemy units in. If you're not using them, a decent choice could be the APC or transport copter. If you make good use of your indirect units, you should advance enough in the first couple days, at which point it will stop snowing.

After a few days later, it will begin raining. This time, the change will adversely affect Olaf's units as well as yours. By Day 8, the battle should be concentrated in the top-right corner. The approach can be kind of slow due to the rain, especially if you're trying to move units with tires instead of treads, like rockets or missiles. It may feel like you're taking too long, but you should be able to get full marks fairly easily.
