An Afghan interpreter arrested as an illegal immigrant after fleeing to Britain to escape Taliban death threats has finally been granted asylum here. Elyas Mohtasham worked with the Army for four years but left Afghanistan in July after he and his family realised their lives were in danger. Now he has been allowed to stay. He has told British Forces News that he and others like him are coming under increasing pressure from the Taliban to stop working as interpreters.
