You have returned to the sandy fields of Alexandria to share your newly discovered knowledge. Bring in the new age in this fun physics and puzzles game called Age of Wonder: Lost Scrolls! Your task here is to go through level and throw the lost scrolls to each citizen. Once you have given all of them, the level will be automatically completed. But this will be a hard mission. You must activate levers in order to open up gates. You also need to throw in rocks to destroy walls. If you can use a minimal amount of scrolls for each level, you will gain perfect ratings!

Overview:

The title itself gives you a sense that you’re in for an action packed game but it’s not. You’re a wise old man in the land of Alexandria. The people of Alexandria thirst for knowledge as well as money, power and almost anything else. Your objective now is to give these people the scrolls of knowledge to crave their hunger. Armed with your scrolls and rocks, you must give the people of Alexandria the knowledge and wisdom that they want to have.

Aesthetics:

The game has very good visuals so to speak. It uses hand drawn animation and it looks alright but nothing special of course. It’s like watching a cartoon or reading a comic book. Speaking of comics, the intro has a good animation as well and it’s sort of like reading a comic. In terms of the audio, during the intro and the course of the game there are very good voice overs. When you’re playing the game in different levels, the characters will have some funny and some cheesy one-liners which make the game more fun. The music itself is really good as each level tends to change tune and gives you that Egyptian or desert feel to it. Then again the tracks will tend to repeat from one level to another different one but that’s not a bad thing.

Gameplay:

There are 30 levels in the game and the gameplay is a trajectory shooter. Trajectory shooters involve slow paced shooting where you usually need to eliminate enemies, obstacles and targets. In Age of Wonder it is different which makes it more interesting and good. Instead of shooting down enemies, you will need to shoot the scroll towards the people of Alexandria to give them the knowledge that they want. Just as we mentioned once they get the scroll, they’ll spout a funny or cheesy one-liner. You need to adjust the trajectory to successfully give them the scrolls. You will have a limited number of scrolls per level. If you don’t have enough scrolls for the remaining people then you will have a game over. If you give the scrolls in the without any misses then you gain a 3 Ankh rank. The lesser or worse you do will decrease your Ankh rank to either 2 or 1 being the lowest. If you think that giving these scrolls is easy then think again. In the later levels there will be obstacles like fire, spikes and blockades. Luckily you have a second item which is a rock. The rock can be used to open levers to eliminate these blockades. It also gets more difficult as you need to have timing and precision with the game’s other elements like teleporting pods and bouncing corners. You can always try again each level if you didn’t get the rank that you wanted. This adds a good replay value to the game so makes sure that you get three Ankh ranks all in all which makes you want to play it over and over again.
