Amstrad 6128plus + Gotek: Part 1 (Installing)
Finally splashed out on a pre-built Gotek (running FlashFloppy) for the Amstrad 6128plus.
It cost about £73 delivered from UK to Australia ... about AU$140 or US$93 ... so, quite expensive (in my opinion) for what you get, even considering £20 is postage & tax - you're paying for the convenience of not having to fiddle around doing it yourself.
If you have a 3D printer then you could create something similar for a lot less. So, for me, this is a bit of a treat ... although I still needed to do some work myself.
In addition to the frame, the seller had included an OLED screen to display disk image information, rather than the Gotek's default two or three digit LED screen.
I like to use a rotary encoder for selecting a disk image rather than the buttons, so I had to add that. I didn't get the push-button functionality working ... not so fussed. I was a little worried when drilling the Ø7mm hole for the shaft but the 3D print seems to be pretty good quality.
I now have a spare 3" drive that I could use as an external B: drive with some extra work - case, power & Centronics-type interface (Part 2).
The Gotek was already re-flashed with the latest FlashFloppy version 3.41:
