So, I originally did some "no powerups" Aubergine test runs for VPC4 Focus a while back... and I remember that it gave me a good amount of trouble, mostly (though not completely!) because of the wasp phase ^^;
After having completed Control, however... I thought I'd go back and give Focus another try. =)
As usual, the first thing I did was to try to figure out a better opening strat for the powerup drops. ^^ As it turns out, while "center" was a fairly convenient place for the powerups... when the flame turret appears on the level, it'll delete any powerups that fall directly onto it... thus freeing them to appear elsewhere! ^^;
... so I started aiming for "close to but not at the center"... and ended up with an opening that was both fairly fun and fairly reliable. =)
The wasp phase took a bit more work... but eventually I found that starting the phase being a lot less aggressive with the wasps (i.e. not destroying too many wasps too quickly, and focusing on the other enemy types instead) seemed to help... and as a bonus, with all this extra practice, I also got a bit better at the phases leading up to the wasp phase. =)
Anyway... eventually, this run happened. ^_^
