Asylum Game Sample - Arcade (Prototype)
There's no real information for this game on the web other than that it is labeled a prototype game developed by Leland Corp. in 1991, so I don't know if it was ever officially released in arcades or if it goes under some other name in a more complete state. Either way, it wouldn't have mattered much either way. If this game was released, I wouldn't waste too many quarters on it.
For an Arcade game, it looks and sounds a lot like a Mega Drive game early in the system's life. The gameplay isn't very good and involves using one of three characters to get through monster-infested dungeons full of traps while gaining various random power-ups that are either good or bad. The game doesn't have particularly good controls and the game actually measures your health with a "Cool" scale that slowly gets drained by attacks and time. When you're healthy, you're "Totally Cool" and when you're badly hurt, you're "Uncool". As if that wasn't cheesy enough, the game has a talking demon head and toilets can replenish your coolness. Yeaaaaaaaaah... I'd probably supply the game with one credit, MAYBE two if I saw it in an Arcade today just for a quick laugh. It's got a little bit of personality, but that simply isn't enough to hold my interest.
If you beat it five times, you could supposedly have gotten a T-Shirt... I guess we'll never know now. This is a video of the first level, dying at the very end. Enjoy.
