Golly! Ghost! [ゴーリー!ゴースト!] Game Sample - Arcade
"Golly! Ghosts!" is a challenging but short Namco Light Gun shooter that used the Namco System 2 hardware and a unique elctro-mechanical diorama controlled by the game's driver board to open and close mechanical doors which are connected to solenoids coils. Part of this information was gleaned from a strategy wiki, as I know little about solenoids or their various uses and applications; I'm not particularly bright.
The lights come on and off during various points in the gameplay and the object of the game is to blast a certain number of apparitions (as either Zip or Zap) and reach a certain score to extend to the next round. If you fail to get a certain amount of points, it's game over for you. Think of the quirkiness of Pac-man, keep just the ghosts, and apply the manly addition of guns to blow them away... tis' pretty cool. What makes the game interesting is that enemies come and go by hiding out in different rooms, but everything takes place on the same screen, just with more enemies and challenges. The game can be played with a friend. A Japan-only sequel was released in 1991 named "Bubble Trouble: Golly! Ghost! 2".
This is a short video showing the game in action. Enjoy.
