Two of the most effective ways to increase a game's replay value are random content generation and built-in support for user-created content. Adventure Creator has both. Although creating your own adventures is the primary point of the software (hence the name), the random generator works impressively well in its own right.

Your adventurer has a stock of energy that gradually depletes while exploring, and must complete a goal (either finding a specific treasure or amassing a certain amount of wealth) before it runs out. Touching traps or certain creatures will drain energy more quickly. Creatures, besides draining energy, may also give you items, teleport you around the room, or trade one item for another (additional actions are available in the editor but never appear in random adventures). Treasure chests in the dungeon have up to 9 locks that you need to pick by pressing the fire button when touching them (this takes time but no other resources), and may contain treasures or tools to help you on your journey.

Tools, which you cycle through with 'T' and use by pressing the fire button when not on a chest or in a doorway, have various useful effects. Shields temporarily protect you from energy-draining effects and keep creatures from interacting with you. Torches briefly light up dark rooms. Hobbles stop creatures from moving. Nippers remove damaging traps until you leave the room and return. Ferrets tell you what type of action a creature will take if you touch it. The last three tools are missiles and need to be shot at things (eight-directional aiming).

In this video, I play through a randomly-generated quest on the Beginner difficulty. I plan to follow this with a second video with an Advanced quest ( https://youtu.be/W-H-o3Og7JM ), and a third demonstrating the editor ( https://youtu.be/zGvHM1J5fKE ).
