Athearn 99452 GE P42DC Diesel Locomotive 822 Amtrak (1971-2011) Phase III (HO Scale) Review HD
8My first Amtrak GE P42DC Passenger Diesel Locomotive in the Amtrak Phase III 40th Anniversary livery to commemorate 40 years of Amtrak from 1971 to 2011 and this one is numbered as #822 (correct me here, but I thought 822 was a P40DC rather than a P42DC?). The model is very nice for detail and there is a headlight that works at both ends in direction of travel but sadly there is no working ditchlights. However, I shall try and add my own with fibre optics which should make the model look better at night. This model was commissioned directly from Amtrak in 2011 although I picked this up brand new from eBay. Performance is excellent as well thanks to the central can motor and all wheel drive on both trucks with a diecast chassis which should provide a decent amount of traction to haul a rake of Superliners without slipping as there is no traction tyres on this model either. The packaging is very nice presented to match the model as well. I would certainly recommend buying this model and I do plan to get the other special liveried P42DC's in due course as I find them.
