Athearn 99177 GE P42DC Diesel Locomotive #7 Amtrak Phase V (HO Scale) Review HD
This is a much older model of the Athearn GE P42DC "Genesis" locomotive in the Amtrak Phase V livery and this one has number #7 as its road number, so I shall nickname this locomotive as the "James Bond" locomotive in my fleet because of the fitting number. The detail is basic on this model and I shall give this model some enhancements to improve the looks as this model was originally released in 2005, so it is 8 years old almost. Performance is very good in the test run and the model came with a Digitrax DCC decoder installed which works fine in DC mode and I won't need to fit a decoder at a later date for when I build a DCC layout. These models are quite hard to find these days, especially my favourite Phase V livery that this model boasts. I would have liked to have seen working ditchlights on this model as that would have make night running more fun but there is a basic headlight at each end which is sufficient and I will add ditchlights to this model myself when I get a couple of new Kato versions that shall be coming out later in the year.
