Back the Log Off! - Episode 6: Life's a Beach (And Then You Ply)

Well, I finally did it. I finally beat the first chapter in Trails in the Sky. Well, really, I'd consider "Chapter 1" to be the second chapter, just considering that the game's prologue was long enough to be a chapter in its own right. Still, this is a momentous occasion for me. Getting further than I did the last time I played this was pretty big for me, but actually making it to the next chapter just makes my progress feel that much more real.
Of course, there was still a fair amount left to do in Chapter 1 before moving onto the next one. Of course, given just how close I was to beating it when I gave up last time, I'm still kind of kicking myself for that one. I honestly did fall in love with Trails in the Sky pretty early on the first time I tried playing -- after all, I wouldn't have tried playing it again if I hadn't. I guess what really surprises me is that even the promise of a virtual audience seems to be enough to encourage me to keep going.
I'm beginning to regret my decision of reading all of the dialogue in this game allowed in my usual fashion. Like, it's bad enough that my voice clearly can't handle all of it... but I'm finding it extremely difficult to keep track of all of the voices I picked out for each character, particularly ones that aren't consistently present. The fact that there are a not-at-all insignificant number of female characters is also not really helping matters. I'm lucky that I'm currently streaming a game that handles its own voice acting at the moment, but I'm not going to be quite as lucky with the next one. I'm going to have to reconsider this gimmick moving forward. I probably won't bother with it for SC and The 3rd... but I'm kind of a stickler for continuity. So I'll have to figure out how to handle the rest of this game.
My banter this time was a little more scattershot. I went into slightly greater detail about the supposed "civil war" that is constantly taking place in the Western portion of the Trails fanbase, and also delved into two of the spin-off games for the series. Frankly, I really can't wait for Boundless Trails to come out here. Honestly, I think NISA did a pretty good job when it came to naming the first two games in the series that XSEED hadn't already personally named themselves, even if people did seem to be absolutely baffled by "Trails into Reverie".
I am also seriously considering recording the inferior -- both in terms of content and their shoddy English translations -- PSP versions of the Gagharv Trilogy someday. That wasn't just an empty statement. Obviously, I'd want to play the Windows PC versions on my own first, but it'd be interesting to compare and contrast the two. Having said that, I'm not sure how I feel about the so-called "Dragon Slayer" games in the Legend of Heroes series, mainly because it seems like the second one barely got released on anything. I don't even know which versions have English translations. Having said that, I do definitely want to do more stuff with Falcom's back catalog. The main issue is that, I'd like to play the old games I have on PC on my own. Trails in the Sky is a massive exception to the rule, simply because I was planning on playing it on my own this year anyway. But in the case of their more interesting old games, it seems like very few of them have English translations at this point.
...that reminds me, I wonder if they ever made any progress on those Legend of Xanadu fandubs?
