Beat Saber PSVR, PS4 Pro, Move Controllers, Escape, Hard
So I finally picked up Beat Saber. I listened to the extra music tracks on youtube to see if I wanted to pick up any more. I'll stick with the default list for now. I kinda liked how Escape sounded, so I practiced with that one. Here is me playing against the song on Hard.
The accuracy of the Move controllers is pretty good here - no jittering at all. I made sure that the camera covered my torso generously while I'm standing, and I stood on the footprints in the game. I did cheat just a little, though - I stood on my tip toes to calibrate so I didn't have to crouch so much - that's a bit of a deep crouch required when nothing else in the game requires anything so major.
I tried on Normal and thought, yeah... ready for Hard. It took a couple tries before I got a good rhythm, so I recorded this. I tried Expert and Expert+. Mmm, yeah, no way until I practice more. Those did not go well.
I was hoping to feel a bit more of a physical punch to the game. Maybe Expert+ might give me a modicum of a workout. I could always swing my hands wider if I wanted.
Playing in Campaign mode is a good way to practice through a variety of songs and challenges, including not getting a max number of misses or bad swings, reaching a minimum number of good swings in a row, getting a minimum score (which taught me that swinging large and wide scores more, ooh), and my favorite, songs that play faster.
Would I recommend it? It's probably the best PSVR rhythm game out there - but I'd like better songs. Still, what's here is serviceable. I had to adjust the position of the boxes around me - I kept whacking them with the Move controller after I found out swinging wide scores better...
You can also tweak how the solo songs play (play them faster or slower, only the arrows show and they disappear as they approach, only 1 failure allowed, etc.) to increase your skill, or practice for a tougher skill level before trying the real thing (I still suck at Expert).
