manually adjust siena proc amp settings :

a. open Capture , then open file
c:\users\public\hauppauge capture\config.xml
b. update the digit in config.xml :
( keep the left\right delimiters )
SienaProcAmpBrightness forceUpdate="true" 14.5 /SienaProcAmpBrightness
SienaProcAmpContrast forceUpdate="true" 58.5 /SienaProcAmpContrast
and save the file .
c. close Capture
d. re-open Capture
e. record
g. stop recording and keep Capture open .
h. inspect two files :
config.xml
SienaProcAmpBrightness forceUpdate="true" 14.5/SienaProcAmpBrightness
SienaProcAmpContrast forceUpdate="true" 58.5/SienaProcAmpContrast

capture.log
2015-08-23 13:46:55.731 [DEBUG][5] ProcAmpValue(0, percent=14.500000, min=0, max=10000, delta=39)

both files should have 14.5 and 58.5 .

The above was a huge effort .

The goal is to get the best possible recorded data into the *.ts file .

1. my reference setup
2. recorded Wallace and Gromit .

14 58 60 49 ( Capture's default )
MAX recorded white 249 .
whites are a little pale ( contrast 58 )
dark grays go dark , too quickly ( brightness 14 ) .
default has that "contrasty" look .

brightness adjusts the darker gray bars

contrast adjusts the light gray bars
( if desktop icons have screaming white text ,..
the TV's contrast might be set too high )

Most settings should be near default .

hue 49 ,..no matter what settings i ever used , skin tone becomes yellow'e

saturation :
1. has slight increased brightness 14.5 and increased contrast 58.5 . Then saturation was reduced to 55 , to prevent color clipping .

Capture's default has saturation 60 , causing color clipping\truncation .

recorded quality using 1.
requires Manual setup of config.xml file
white's are full white
dark levels are revealing .
hue's are close ( colors are mostly accurate )
color saturation looks ok

recorded quality using 2.
easier to setup
white's are slightly pale
dark levels are revealing .
hue's are close ( colors are mostly accurate )
color saturation looks ok

you MUST make your own color and gray bars .
Uploads have already been transcoded at least once ,... the colors are most likely NOT true anymore .
i used Microsoft Paint . In Paint , use the eye dropper to sample a color . Use the Edit Colors tab to view the RGB values of the sample .
To analyze recording , play it , pause it , LeftShift-PrintScreen and paste into Paint .
R G B
Cyan 0 255 255
Magenta 255 0 255
Yellow 255 255 0
gray 127 127 127
black 0 0 0
to test color clipping , i used 235 instead of 255's
two sets of color bars .
