Bicycle Run, the bicycle racing game that enables you to race your slack-jawed avatar against witch doctors, Playboy bunnies, aliens, creepy nurses, and more. Sound strange? Yeah, it kinda is, but it's also a lot of fun.

You might, upon looking at this game for the first time, wonder why your racer looks the way he does. After getting past that, you might notice that while the game has some rather funky looking characters, they don't really animate all that much and as a result might think that it's a subpar game. Still, the game is worth a shot once you look beyond its graphical shortcomings and strange oddities.

First off, the characters look great. They're drawn well, they each have their own unique characteristics and flavor. It's mostly aesthetic, but having different racers to go against is interesting. Despite this though, none of the racers actually do much rather than just sit on their bikes and pedal away. A little more animation might have looked great, but it is what it is. The track is sufficient, but the lack of detail on it may be a bit of a drag in that you're pretty much looking at the same thing over and over again.

The music though, picks up a lot of the slack and gives a great atmosphere to the game with its fast beat catchy nature. Sadly, you don't get any sound effects here though, and you're just cycling along in silence (other than the music). Some screeching rubber might have been good, or sound effects for when you crash.

Like other side-scrolling racing games, the game is mostly controlled with the arrow keys. You do have access to a booster (which I'm at a loss to figure out how such would work on a manually powered bicycle) which can speed you up at critical moments during the race.

As a racer, Bicycle Run is decent. Sure, it's not quite heart-pumping, but it's fun enough. And the levels, while fairly similar looking, vary enough in their form to provide a decent challenge. Likewise, the AI isn't too shabby, and you should get a kick out of trying to beat it. Along the way, you can upgrade your bike to improve your racing abilities. A unique aspect of this game is that you don't win money for a race. Instead, you bet money on races and the amount you win (or lose) depends on whether or not you place.

To sum up, Bicycle Run may be a bit generic, but it's fun enough to warrant a try.
