Tanked Up - Game preview / gameplay
11Hey, remember Rock and Roll Racing? On the Super Nintendo? Yeah, well Tanked Up plays a whole lot like it. In this game, you take control of a tank (what else?) and do something tanks aren't generally used to doing: racing.
You mean you can get hulking behemoths of steel, and pit them against one another in a race? You betcha! And you can also use their cannons to blast the other racers apart? Hoo boy, sure you can. Really, what's not to love in this game?
The graphics here look rather cutesy and all, but they serve well enough for this game. The tanks are nicely drawn in a fun pixel-arty style that rather matches the feel of the levels. They work well together in a cartoony sort of way, but don't detract from the overall feel of the high-paced racing and destructive carnage of racing tanks. The tanks also animate rather nicely, with the turning and moving all coming together nicely.
Like the graphics, the audio is great here. You've got quirky music, great explosion effects, and well-matched sounds for the rest of the game. Like the graphics, your sounds are also rather cartoony, but that's a plus here as anything else would have seemed out of place.
Unlike other racing games where you typically only drive around using the arrow keys without having to worry about anything else, here you have to take into account where your cannon is pointing which can, truth be told, be a bit distracting at times. While you're moving around the track with the arrow keys, you're flailing your mouse around to point your cannon in the direction of your opponents (which can be a completely different direction from where you're going) in order to blast them to bits. It's hard, but it's lots of fun.
As can be expected in a game where you race tanks and blow each other up, Tanked Up is a lot of fun to play. The racing aspect can take some getting used to, especially if you're also trying to blast your opponents. Sure, you can always just ignore the shooting part, but where's the fun in that? The game is also challenging enough to provide a decent fight, but also easy enough to be accessible to the average player.
All in all, Tanked Up is both a great racer and a great shooting game. Check it out now, it's definitely not a game you want to miss!
