Go Kart Go! Nitro! - Game preview / gameplay
181Show me someone who doesn't like go kart games and I'll show you someone who doesn't like having fun. Go Kart Go! Nitro! is a fun and cartoony little go-kart game in the spirit of Mario Kart and similar games. If that isn't enough to get you playing, then sadly you might have a case of the aforementioned not-liking fun.
The game certainly looks very kiddy, with various anthropomorphic animals racing on similarly cartoony and kiddy go karts. The levels are also pretty cartoony, so one could be forgiven for thinking that this is a silly and simple game. Read: It's not a silly and simple game.
As stated above, the graphics are mostly very kiddy. You've got silly little characters like a pig in an apron, a rhino wearing a baseball hat, and a flamingo with a flight cap to name a few. Each character is rendered in 3D, with each animating rather nicely. All the go karts are different, with the bull dog's cart being radically different from the crocodile's.
The tracks are also rendered in 3D, with many things animating nicely across them giving each level a feeling of vibrant life. In addition to that, the different weapons and powerups you can get add a nice sense of anarchic and colorful chaos to the races that makes for a great deal of (confusing) fun.
The sounds here are easily at par with the graphics. You've got easy music, nothing too heavy on the beat. Instead, it's relaxing and soothing, quite at odds with the cutthroat racing present on the tracks. Each character also has his/her own sound effects which come into play when they pass someone, manage to get a boost just right, or grab a powerup. The many powerups and weapons also have sound effects, with the water balloon sounding completely different from the rocket thrusters as one would expect.
The game plays with controls similar to most racing games. If you've played other racers, then you should feel right at home here. You do have other controls at your disposal, such as being able to look behind you to see where the other racers are in relation to yourself. This can come in handy when plotting just how to bring the other racers down or how to deploy your traps. Speaking of which, you've also got powerups (just like in Mario Kart) which you can use to either boost yourself, or to bring down other racers.
Like Mario Kart, Go Kart Go! Nitro! is a fun and addictive game. Sure, it might not be quite as polished, but for a free online racer, it does provide a good account of itself. The races are actually tough, and the sheer variety of powerups available make each match chaotic and fun-filled, with there being little clue as to what's happening next making for great replayability. More than the races and the racers, the levels are all a pleasure to view. Each level has its own theme, from barnyard tracks to something that would feel right at home on the Flintstones.
All in all, Go Kart Go! Nitro! is a fun and challenging racer. Not only that, it's got great replay value and it's sure to keep you at it for hours!
