Secret of Evermore - Self-Imposed Challenge Run Part 5: The difficulties of exploration expansion
Rules so far:
-No switching to the Dog in an active combat area unless absolutely necessary
-Dog must not be dropped to 0 HPs
-Pixie Dust, Wings, and Call Beads are not allowed
-Alchemy restrictions to be determined
-Bone Crusher banned after Thraxx
-All Sword and Spear weapon restrictions to be determined
New rule explanation:
-Bone Crusher post-Thraxx ban - the Spider's Claw is an Axe, and Axes are more technical with the charge attacks. Swords' L3 attacks are a double-hit without any damage reduction to compensate. This applies for the Axe's L2 attack too, but that doesn't have as much power to begin with. Past Thraxx, there shouldn't be any need to use Swords, so lifting the ban upon reaching Gothica as I originally planned when recording this part and the next would become useless.
-Sword/Spear weapon restrictions - Swords go without saying. Spears have their chargeup attack be javelin attacking, which of course is self-explanatory. It's likely I'll limit Spear weapon usage to the case of That One Boss in Gothica. You know the one. There may be other instances where I would need Spear weapon usage or some such as well, I'll see. I will, however, lift any bans when on a screen deemed trivialized (basically, all enemies get 1HKOed by the available Axe and deal too little damage to be any viable threat) to be able to get weapon levels up.
Heading upwards from Fire Eyes' Village leads to a now possible to explore screen of the jungle that has Carniflowers aplenty to teach the player to watch the AI partner's movement and also beware of traps via the Carniflowers' swallowing grabs. The Mammoth Graveyard, further north, has Widowmakers that can inflict Poison at random upon dealing damage, and then a boss fight with a Viper Commander and 4 Viper mooks, who will be happy to use erratic movement encouraging you to lead your attacks to snipe them. Beating them provides some neat stuff, and the screen being clear allows for raiding the graveyard for alchemy ingredients.
....wait a minute. ...so we're graverobbing for combat materials, while calling out the bad guys for graverobbing for combat materials. ....wait, what?
The good gameplay should be on display next part....providing nothing unexpected happens.
