Bootleg Sampler - Sega Saturn - SEGA Demo CD showcase includes Bug! [UHD 4K60]
Rather odd name for an official Sega demo disc done by Sega of America, this is a straight PAL version of the NTSC code of the disk so everything is running around 16.66% slower. Even if they do state the drop as 17.5% slower on the disc, truth be told the percent change between 50/60Hz does change slightly pending on the frame rate and Hz output of the game in question and depends if you are rounding up or down and if you are using 60,59.94,30,29.97 etc.., but 16.66% is closer to the average change.
Tech mention out of the way, compared to the Japanese demo discs this American one is somewhat lack luster in the presentation with just a bland menu. On the plus side the disc is packed with videos including a few games that never got released in the PAL region including Astal and Congo the Movie: The Lost City of Zinj.
It includes playable demos of World Series Baseball, Sega Rally Championship, Clockwork Knight 2 and Bug!. In America there were two versions of this demo disc the first only contained a video of Bug! the later version included a demo, however the Bug! video was included on the later discs and will run if left in attract mode for long enough and the file can be viewed on a PC.
World Series Baseball includes a large number of unused final game files on the disc including a win video. This Sega Rally Championship demo is missing the Game Over screen seen in the Sega Flash Vol.1 demo it also contains some unfinished elements. Clockwork Knight II demo is the first level from the game and the Bug! demo includes two levels and the bonus stage. Oddly it includes a stage from the third world Splot! one of the harder in the game and one of the weaker worlds, not the best level to demo to gamers.
All the video on the disc are shown at the end of this video, the Virtua Fighter 2 demo is just a attract of the arcade intro, but this is an early version with a large number of extra graphics glitches. The Bug video is shown at the end of the demo. Strangely only the Mystaria video uses music from the game the rest all use music from another source. The final video, shows a mix of games asides from the titles not released in PAL it lists two games Free Runner (Which may have been a working title for Grid Runner/Run) and another called bizarrely Roach Racing, which we don't have a clue what that might have been, but the name is just odd.
Videos include footage from Bug!, Daytona USA, NHL All-Star Hockey, Mystaria - The Realms of Lore, Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Cop, Wing Arms, Ghen War, Cyber Speedway, Virtua Fighter Remix, Black Fire, Astal, Mr. Bones, Congo the Movie: The Lost City of Zinj and The Mansion of Hidden Souls.
This was included with Sega Saturn Magazine in the UK on issue 3 and we suspect was also included as a pack in demo disc with some model 1 consoles in 1995.
