Smashing Drive - Gamecube - Intro & Arcade gameplay Early Bird routes [UHD 4K60]
Crazy Taxi meets Outrun in this rather amusing arcade driving game made by Spanish developer Gaelco S.A. The home port was published by Namco, but only got a NTSC/U Gamecube & Xbox release in North America. Making it a rather obscure title despite being a European arcade game, it's fair to say it was rather rare to find in arcades.
While not the most in depth game, with only four areas made up of three tracks each and a 4th bonus track. The basic gameplay is to get to your objective before the timer runs out and to try and beat your rival if possible. You can choose to race through the streets or take one of the many shortcuts that will see you jumping over ships, driving up building or crashing through shopping malls. While it lasts the game is rather challenging and knowing the best path to drive down is key to victory.
There are a selection of power up to grab along the way, from a turbo boost to a horn that literality blows cars out of the way. As the name of the game said, you will be smashing your way through just about everything going.
As the port goes it's very close to the arcade, only the intros and outros from each stage where the passenger gets into the cab have been removed for some odd reason. Strangely they are shown in the game manual, suggesting there removal from the home port was last minute. If you like this type of arcade driving game and get grab it cheap it's worth a play. Don't expect a game that will last more than a couple of hours unless you want to improve your scores and time. There is a total lack of options to choose from, which just add to the lastability problems.
