Байт (Byte): Part 3 (Loading software)
It seems I didn't progress much further with this Belarusian ZX Spectrum clone after powering it on and getting video output in Part 2. I still don't have a made-up RGB cable so will need to confirm the pinout again - the documentation I have details a 7-pin DIN but my Байт only has a 5-pin DIN.
I reconnect the speaker to the keyboard using a detachable wire - I might need to pull the keyboard apart and give it a proper clean.
The keyboard is a bit mushy but is not too bad (in comparison to some machines) ... but it seems I need to press quite hard for a button to register ... no touch typing here.
I managed to load two games without issue or having to adjust anything!
I first loaded an original ZX Spectrum game ... The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It loaded and seemed to start but then got stuck ... will need to track down the instructions.
I then tried a modern game ... Rodmän from TFW8b. It too loaded perfectly and I was able to have a decent game ... just had to remember to press the relevant keys hard. Enjoyable little game. Kiitoksia Mika.
If the colours are correct then I'll be able to make up a proper RGB cable.
Thanks to help from @adamradipat1715 on the Discord, it looks like we've just about figured out all the special keys. Not sure about the REG 1 & REG 2 ... symbol shift?
