Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium (SonSon, Savage Bees) playthrough
And we're in the second Capcom stadium now. More games! More expensive. More duplication. Some rather egregious duplication, releasing two expensive sets within a month of each other with a large amount of overlap. Yup, Capcom's a video game company, designed to take as much of your money as possible. So how are the games in this one?
SonSon: The free game for this set and I don't like it. It's too boring. It's an older arcade game, where they had very limited memory and thus could only do a small amount of things. Really, the focus would be on one mechanic, and trying to stretch the content out of that. And I don't think this one works. There's so many games so many companies made where it's basically a multi-path auto runner like this. And none of them are any good. This one bounces between mind-numbingly easy to filling the screen with enemies. But there's also the secret bamboo shoots to find for higher score! ...Yea, they aren't impressive, and I don't care. No continues hurts this game too.
Savage Bees: All my lists kept the original "Exed Eyes" name for the game -but only for this one, oddly. So that threw me off. But here we have an early Capcom schmup. One that, surprisingly, does a lot of things right that I didn't expect to see. Two players on screen at the same time, even in single player you continue right where you left off when you put a new coin in. It's pretty basic, has a "mega crush" but that only stops enemy shots, not even killing the enemies themselves. But the game is looooooooooong, far, far too long. Not that that's a problem in arcades where you just put a few coins in and stop playing when you're done, but a big problem for this set in trying to get a completion. I suppose I could have fast forwarded, but I'm trying to be legit. At least, unlike 1942, the difficulty kept ramping up instead of spiking. But this was mind-numbingly repetitive. And, while I had asked for a boss rush for the last stage, the way they executed it was about the worst. It's rather put me off the game, sadly. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
