(CCPlays) Cold Waters 1984 NATO Campaign Part 2: Stopping Soviet Amphib Operations
Previously in this dotMod enhanced NATO 1984 Campaign...
We stopped the soviet penetration of GIUK line by submarine.
We destroyed the entire Soviet amphib invasion of Iceland.
We intercepted Soviet cruise missile subs for convoy raiding.
My typical loadout for 688 in 1984 is no Harpoon, no TASM, no TLAM, just 4-5 MOSS decoys and the rest, Mk 48 Mod 4 ADCAP torpedoes. I usually load 3 torpedoes and 1 decoy in the tubes "just in case".
NOTE: The photo in the thumbnail and the badge was of the real USS Portsmouth SSN 707, which has been decommissioned for many many years by now. Consider this a tribute to her service, and to all those who served aboard her.

Now, we have just resupplied at Holy Loch, and our latest priority mission is:
Mission 4: Stop the Soviet diesel-electric subs sneaking through the coastal waters near Norway.
Transited to patrol area.
26-NOV-84 Sank 3 x Foxtrots and 1 x Whiskey. Initially only detected Whiskey, but patience revealed the rest of the group, and executed almost perfect ambush from the baffles.
26-NOV-84 Received Next Mission
Mission 5: Stop Soviet Amphib force from attacking Trondheim, Norway.
26-NOV-84 Sonar reported contact to north and northeast. We soon IDed Krivak, Kresta, then Ropucha, Svedlov, Alligator, and possibly more. All detected ships were sunk, but it's possible some may have gotten away as I was delayed by anti-sub patrols. Intel briefing suggests that a freighter and a landing ship got away, but the invasion was stopped cold.
27-NOV-84 New Mission
Mission 6: Destroy Soviet at-sea replenishment group (tanker and supply ship)
We were already near the patrol area and arrived only a few hours later.
28-NOV-84 Contact was detected to the east. We IDed Poti, Kashin, Ugra, and finally Victor III hiding in the back. All four were sunk.
We've been ordered to return to Holy Loch for resupply. It is time for a big push.
And the war continues... in part 3.
