Previously, in the Cold Waters (DotMod) Y2000 NATO campaign, we have drawn first blood by sinking three PLAN submarines.

12-SEP-00 Priority Mission Received
Mission: Return to Guam to pick up a SEAL team and drop them off at Yulin, on Hainan Island, near the enemy naval base.
Picked up the SEAL team, but making room for them means I have to go without any reloads. What I got in the 8 tubes is all I got.
17-SEP-00 Arrived in the mission area
As I approached Hainan and the Paracels, I was surprised by an ASW group sortied from the Paracels and forced to dive. As my torpedoes are limited, I decided to evade them. Left behind a group of Romeo (sub), Luda (DD) and Jianghu3 (FF), then 2 x Luda (DD) and Jianghu3 (FF), and finally Luda (DD), Jiangwei (FF), and Jianghu3 (FF).
We approached Yulin Harbor... which has its own problems. Water is EXTREMELY shallow near shore. And the local waters are patrolled by both a maritime patrol plane AND an ASW helo with dipping sonar, not to mention multiple frigates. And there are reports of minefields near shore, and we won't see them until we are close enough to pick them up with our ultrasonic sensors.
We tried approaching from the southeast, and the mines are laid right up to the beach. There is no way we will sneak in that way. In fact, getting out turned out to be a problem, as I had to reverse the sub just to get back out. Finally reached the drop-off spot, by mapping the edge of the minefield and the SEALs left the vessel. But one of the escorts was VERY VERY close. In fact, I was backing up and I was so sure they had spotted us, but they just turned around and went back to their patrol route.
We followed the escort back out of the minefield, then went ahead standard and turned off, and left the area. Mission accomplished.
And the war continues...
