(CCPlays) First Look | Modern Naval Combat DEMO | A New Fleet Combat Game From China
Modern Naval Combat (sometimes rendered as Modern Naval Battle), is a tactical real-time wargame that uses assets of modern fleets including air assets and tries to simulate a battle with a fleet from the 1980s, 2000s, and 2020s among 3 factions: US, China, and Russia.
NOTE: This is NOT "Modern Naval Warfare", a VERY different game from a very different studio, they just happen to have a very similar title on a very similar subject.
The combat seems pretty detailed, as it also includes available land support such as land-based bombers, EW aircraft to accompany air attacks, and submarine attacks, as well as ASW operations.
The demo is fully playable with a couple "battles" (scenarios) plus a battle builder (called "engagement") where you can simulate battles of fleets from different eras and different sizes based on a point system and given budget. You can even let AI play against each other. There's no way to setup a 3-way battle though, and I don't see any multiplayer.
I have no link to the developers and I decided to try this demo as it seems to have some potential. Right now, the game is a half-translated mess, though you can probably "figure out" most of the non-English stuff. The translations that are there is often inconsistent and riddled with errors, probably fed through a translator program instead of actually localized by a real human. Text blocks are often cut off at the bottom.
But it has... potential, if I can ever figure out how REALLY to launch those anti-ship Harpoons from the ships. The air ops are simplified and kinda interesting, and pretty intuitive, but how fatigue and repair is handled was not explained (why I sent the planes out for one sortie, and they don't seem to be available again, or they were flying way too fast for the time spent to and from the target area). And the AI doesn't seem to do any ASW (so if you have more subs, you win by default).
But as I said, there is some potential there, even if there's some... patriotic stat inflation.
I tried to play "battle" in "NATO Expansion" for a while, trying to figure out the game (there's no obvious tutorial, but it did give some suggestions) then gave up and decided to figure out what is "Engagements" (it's a battle builder)
