Welcome to another episode of Captain Chang Plays (CCP) and we are still in Cold Waters. We are doing 1984 NATO campaign, but with a twist... we are using a surface ship... a Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser.

17-DEC-84 Norwegian Sea
We are blocking the Norwegian sea just east of the GIUK SOSUS line hoping to intercept more transiting Soviet subs, when sonar announced contacts to southeast.
We went to battlestations, and both helos are prepped for torpedo drops. We quickly found a Foxtrot, and it had wandered in a bit too close and a combination of helo dropped torps and ASROC finished it, but we had also found a Tango hiding further away.
We decided to just wait passively for Tango to come along, but he's not playing. He seems to be sitting still. So I ordered a torpedo dropped on him, then a second from a different direction, with a second helo waiting nearby to add more. The first dropped just circled, but it did panic him into moving. So the second torpedo dropped... and impacted immediately, but it didn't seem to stop him. But that had attracted the circling torpedo behind him, which caught up and detonated before he can drop a noisemaker. Tango destroyed. Mission complete.
18-DEC-84 Norwegian Sea
New priority mission received.
MISSION: Stop Soviet destroyer on scouting mission passing through your area.
19-DEC-84 Norwegian Sea
New priority mission received, previous order was apparently based on bad intel.
MISSION: Stop Enemy Cruise Missile Sub Wolfpack at the GIUK gap.
We have contacts to the northwest. We did the standard pre-combat procedure and launched both helos. We IDed a trawler, 2 blue whales... and an Echo II cruise missile sub.
As the two helos prosecuted the Echo II, sonar identified another subsurface contact, which is a Charlie II. Both appear to be heading away from us, and Echo II was probably already hit once, as it was assuming a bow-up position at 21 kt. Then Echo II broached! I ordered the gun crew to engage, and both bow and stern guns opened fire alternately. After about 40 shots, Echo II sank beneath the waves and was never heard from again.
That leaves Charlie II, and both helos are on it. One torpedo in, two torpedoes in. Charlie II went flank and full evasive, but then came torpedoes three and four. One slipped through, and Charlie II joined Echo II on the bottom, less than 2 km away.
20-DEC-84 New Priority mission received.
MISSION: Stop Soviet Subs carrying Spetsnaz commandos trying to sabotage our SOSUS line at Torshavn.
