CDP: Devilish Gates to a Very Dark World, ft. SDR Devil's Gate Support
The Dark World Library is open... Enter if you Dare!
Welcome back to another profile featuring new cards, this time centered around the totality of the new Dark World (DW) Support cards from their upcoming Structure Deck R. While I've used some of their new cards such as Dark World Accession or Reign-Beaux, Supreme Overlord of Dark World in a previous profile (see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atlztBByfJ4 ), this time I decided to go a bit more heavy handed on the archetype with all the new cards. Overall, building DW is an absolute blast, as you must expertly balance the number of cards that discard with the number of cards that want to be discarded, as you need to have both to trigger their effects. I'm going to begin with the new discard enablers for the theme. Dark World Library is a Continuous Spell that lets you discard a DW monster to boost the ATK of all DW monsters you control, plus when a DW monster is discarded by a card effect, you get to discard another card to draw 2 cards. Combine that with the new Genta, Gateman of Dark World, and you have two ways to discard. Genta can discard itself, unlike most other DW monsters, to tutor a copy of their Field Spell, The Gates of Dark World. Additionally, whenever Genta is banished, it can Special Summon itself if you control a DW card. If you don't notice the obvious combo, you can discard Genta to tutor Gates, banish Genta for Gates to discard something else, then Special Summon Genta for your troubles.
Depsite these new cards, DW has always struggled a bit with one part of their gameplay - most of their monsters have an additional effect when discarded by the opponent, and it can be tough to enable that. Well Dark World Brainwashing lets you convert an opponent's monster effects into a discard or you can use the new Grapha, Dragon Overlord of Dark World, OR you can lean upon Ceruli, Guru of Dark World. When Ceruli is discarded, it summons itself to the opponent's field, and then since it was summoned by a DW effect, it discards a card from your hand. You can also trigger Ceruli using either Lucent, Netherlord of Dark World, the new Perl, Hermit of Dark World, or the second effect of Reign-Beaux, Supreme Overlord of Dark World. With all of these ways to access Ceruli, on top of Snoww, Unlight of Dark World's search, you have plenty of ways to justify using Ceruli once again. Embrace all that the Dark World has to offer, because those gates will surely swing closed behind you.
