Chilean Cyberday: From a US copy to over a decade of multi-million dollar results
This coming Monday, a new version of Cyber Monday begins, running from October 6th to 8th. Various national online stores are offering their best deals and promotions in order to increase sales in their various digital spaces.
Well, in theory.
A little history. In 2011, the Cyber Monday tradition was imported to Chile from the United States, bringing post-Thanksgiving shopping online. You've surely seen those pitched battles for cheaper products in movies or TV shows.
The process was quite successful because it generated a good level of income for stores and freed up inventory space for Christmas sales.
The Chilean Chamber of Commerce promoted this date under the same name as "Cyber Monday" in November of that year, with overwhelming success. However, as people demanded more days and it was seen that it was very close to Christmas, it was moved to October.
