Real Bout 2 The Newcomers: A return to a more traditional Fatal Fury
In 1998, SNK was still in its prime and released a version of Fatal Fury called "Real Bout 2: The Newcomers," which introduced an updated graphic style with new characters and a system that deepened the two-plane combat.
The game sought to introduce a new rival for Terry in the form of boxer Rick Stroud, but Li Xiangfei was the public favorite, so she was included in various versions of The King of Fighters since 1999.
The gameplay is simplified with two attacks, one special and one to move in the background, although there are a couple of stages where this is not possible, which adds a new strategy that rewards shorter, more effective combinations and controlling your character's mobility.
This would be the last traditional Fatal Fury, since in 1999, the company made one of the most important twists to the franchise with a time jump in "Garou: Mark of the Wolves," featuring an older Terry Bogard and a new generation of characters, led by the Son of Geese, Rock Howard.
This year, SNK has sought to reach a new audience with its lesser-known but innovative games, such as Art of Fighting 3, and released a Steam version of Real Bout 2 with netcode rollback and other improvements for a great online experience.
