Sony's emergence and success in the video game world in the 1990s was based on the console's need to highlight its 3D potential, and many 2D games barely made it to the West due to the company's mandate. However, companies like Konami and Capcom still invested in their franchises.

One of the games that remained officially available in Japan for a long time was the side-by-side shooter Harmful Park, released in 1997 and only reaching the West through digital PlayStation 3 games.
